you are still a horsegirl. it's in our blood forever. no need to own a horse...you had me close to tears for your generosity to sad donkey/cinnamon toast/bonanza's life change.
Thank you, I'm sooo happy to read this! I've walked by that donkey a few times when visiting my father. It was really sad to see. Thank you for your courage, heart and energy, it's so good to know he's a happy donkey now ❤️
Your observations about animals in Portugal are so sad. I know that in poorer countries, people are struggling to survive and that changes one's attitudes towards animals. But this is why, despite my husband and I really wanting to leave the U.S., we ruled out Portugal, Spain, and Italy. France is a maybe, and England is the ideal, as that's where my husband's from and he has family there. Anyway, lovely story (I started with the post about Toast getting to his forever home) and I agree that we can't save them all but sometimes we can save one. We have found homes for dogs dumped at our local dog park here in Memphis, and though it was exhausting, it was incredibly fulfilling.
I often wish that the suffering of others, especially animals, didn't hurt me so much. I feel it physically as well as emotionally. Most others don't seem to be hit so hard. It makes me think of the C.S. Lewis quote about being made for another world. The world I want is one where there are no Sad Donkeys.
I was so happy when I saw your latest, "The Long Scrawl", with the photo of Sad Donkey! I knew you had been working on saving him and am so happy it worked out! Woohoo!!
Thank you so much for rescuing Bonanza Cinnamon Toast. 🤎 I live in a rural area now and have gotten familiar with some (well taken care of) donkeys here and love their personalities!

This is such a kind and beautiful story. So happy to make a small contribution for Bonanza Cinnamon Toast to have a roof over his head -- and some extra snacks.
Beautiful story! So much sadness here with the animals. As a (former) horse person myself I can totally relate. You did a wonderful thing saving Toast, and showing your daughter how it's done. I now trap and release colony cats and it's extremely frustrating but like you said - you can't help them all, but it means the world to the ones you can help. Thank you for your efforts.
Bowing to your generosity of heart. In the last 1 1/2 year our 1 cat family grew to 3; a 4 month-old and a 2-week old at the time of finding them in a dire conditions. Previously just Nube, now we parent Yoda and Vida. I will donate to Bonanza Cinnamon Toast’s barn, in honor of, and, for the benefit of all animals in need. 🙏🏽🙇🏽♀️🫏🐈 🐕 🐾🐾

Oh, I love that you know exactly which donkey I'm talking about!! I promise he's a whole new fella now. He's loving his new life!
Yes, funny I got to read your post, I don´t know how :-) I´m very happy for him, a big thank you to you and all the others involved in this rescue.

Yes to everything you just said. I would very much like to live in the world where there are no Sad Donkeys. Next life, maybe.
What a beautiful story! Thank you for saving Bonanza Cinnamon Toast (Crunch) 💖

I was relieved to hear Toast has a happy life. As soon as I’m re-employed, it’s you, and the Balam Foundation for donation.
Thank you for persevering for him. The language barrier, the greed could have stopped you. You didn’t let it.

So needed this to have a happy ending! 😭
This is SUCH a great story! Donated a bit to help. Take care
Awww, that's amazing. Bonanza Cinnamon Toast and I thank you!!
St. Francis adores how you are demonstrating love for animals so that Filha (and others) see his legacy in action. Thank you for your kindness.
Beautiful!
