What a satisfying post to read. It felt like having a good meal where you don't even need dessert. I especially loved this paragraph:

"Happiness comes and goes, but happiness is not the end goal. Contentment is. Peace. That sense of rightness, of knowing your brain is in a good place. Bonus points if your body is, too. So long as this place is good for us (and we are good for it), we’ll be here."

I saved it to read to myself later when I'm stressed out about a ridiculously small thing that means nothing in the larger scheme of things.

LaDonna, your blog posts are a joy to read, not to mention inspirational (and such great photos). Like yourself, I left my home country to start a new adventure in France.

I too might eventually make the move to Portugal in a year or two. Perhaps one day our paths will cross, I feel a sort of kindred spirit in your writings. (I too am a writer and photographer, I'm finishing up my memoir.)

A French author named François de La Rochefoucauld once wrote: Qui vit sans folie n’est pas si sage qu’il croit. (He who lives without folly is not so wise as he thinks.) It does take a lot of folly, doesn't it, to uproot oneself (and a whole family!) and cross the Atlantic to go live somewhere else.

In any case, here's my blog URL below. I spent eleven perfect days in Portugal last summer. If you click on PORTUGAL up top, you can see my photos and read my posts. Happy travels and discovery!

Another wonderful post! Thanks again for sharing you and your family’s experiences, feelings, delights and challenges, in such charming words and photos. Isn’t Comur something! We are off to Sintra for the first time tomorrow and, like you, we relish being able to stroll gently and enjoy since we can return as often as we like. Our honeymoon continues after four months . . . Enjoy!

Loved this blog post and all the gorgeous photos! You write beautifully. Your attitude and love for Portugal is inspirational. I live here as well and it's been harder for me to adjust. I still feel like it was the right move, but I struggle on some days with the language barrier and just missing what is "familiar". Continuing to try to learn more Portuguese! Luckily, the people have been nothing but kind.
