You’ve actually made me cry LaDonna! What a beautifully moving and sentimental post…so much sadness, but also joy, blessing, memories and relief! I could feel every moment. Makes me long for Portugal even more. And such a poignant point about flags at half-mast for victims of gun violence in this country….you’re absolutely right…we would never see a raised flag again.
LaDonna this made me cry. You made me realize how my parents are aging. The reality that they won’t be here forever. The pictures of your smiling mom brought a smile to my face. Something so simple as a road trip meant so much to her and to you. I need to see my parents more. Thank you for that reminder. 😊
What a gift for mom AND you ❤️ You’re right, you’ll need these memories for later. You are so tangibly living joy and sorrow. I guess that’s a pretty rich life.
Aww what an important but bittersweet trip for you and your Mom. I meant to tell you I drove from Denver to Cincinnati in September. On my way I stopped in Chicago to see some old friends and drove through your hometown! Made me think of you!
Very moving story, I'm glad you got to do this trip with your Mom - and that you could return to Lisboa after! Wishing you a happy holiday season over there!
As always, I love your writing. I look forward to these posts.

I know I have to make a similar trip soon. Thanks for helping me remember I'm not alone in it.
Lovely story. My family is in rural (northern) IL also :)
Oh, nice. What town? I'm originally from Dixon.
Not far from Dixon! My mom and my sister live in the tiny town of Lanark :)
Oh wow, yeah! What a small world.

That’s a really moving post. It was really loving of you to take your Mom to Dugger
