I want to do this as well, for all the reasons you state, but the red tape of it is holding me back. Did you then have to update your passport and mortgage documents and will, etc.? I'm traveling this summer, so am worried if I do this it I wont have my passport changed in time.

I did have to change my name on Driver's License, passport, etc. But for bank/mortgage docs I did a transitional thing where I would sign both my married and maiden names. It felt like there was a lot of red tape for a few months and then it was all done. The short-term hassle felt worth it to me, and I wanted to get it done before I moved to the EU and had a bunch of new ID docs, bank docs, etc.

I was going to comment about the Unity Candle at weddings but then you nicely gave your side rant! Thank you! I currently have two names, personal and professional and sometimes wonder about that. Lots to think about here. Loved your thoughts and your action!!

You feel like a kindred spirit! I had to get divorced to appreciate my maiden name... (insert screachy tire sound... what an odd thing to call it). Then after that rethink religion as well... set firmly aside for more than a decade now, currently 6 months from our move to Potugal. Thanks for this blog ❤️❤️

OMG and do you actually have to publish your name change in a newspaper? What a goofy process.

That's what I had to do in San Francisco county, not sure if that's the rule everywhere.
