A workshop with Salted Books

Last year I led several versions of an introductory writing workshop, both in person and online, and they were all delightful. I’m excited to bring the workshop back — this time in the company of my beloved Salted Books in Lisbon.

If you live in/around Lisbon (or next time you visit) please check out the bookshop. It’s a blue jewel box of lovely people and brilliant things to read. I’ve attended poetry readings there and workshops and early morning writing hours, and every time I stop in, it feels like a refuge. So I am thrilled that on a Sunday evening in just a few weeks, I get to lead my own workshop there.

What is Write Your Life? It’s a two-hour generative writing class that provides thoughtful guidance, craft basics, and easy prompts to help you make your memories come alive on the page.

You don’t need previous writing experience to learn how to write about your life in an engaging way. You just need a head full of your own stories. Maybe you’ve thought about writing them down. Maybe you’ve wondered how to begin, or worried that no one will want to read what you’ve written, or told yourself you couldn’t possibly do such a thing because you’re “not really a writer?” Then you’re exactly the person I created this class for.

You’ll walk out of this experience with one (very short) written work about your life and lots of ideas for how to keep the stories coming—including a take-home packet that includes writing prompts and a reading list. All you need to bring is yourself, your memories, and something to write on.

We’ll meet for Write Your Life on Sunday, April 19 from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Salted Books — Calçada do Marquês Abrantes 96, 1200-720 Lisboa. This is a one-time class and the fee is 25€. You can register here. The class is limited to 12 attendees.
